December Thaw? Temporary Insanity?

Here's my theory: The January thaw came early this year. And it came big time! I don't remember a significant thaw last January, so let's assume this past week's ridiculousness was making up for lost time. So with the thaw out of the way, we should have clear sailing for the rest of the winter. Fingers crossed.

We had a little bit of snow last night, but it was tough to tell unless you got out into the woods since the wind was...well...the predominant feature of our weather today. Yikes. Certainly some scouring of the fields, but the woods are nice and fluffy. I'll work on some photographic evidence tomorrow. Oh, and speaking of tomorrow, it's supposed to snow again. Winds will be down, too. Then more snow on the way for Friday.

First Day of Winter

Winter certainly wanted to let us know it was here. What better way to celebrate the first day of winter than with a huge snowstorm? Works for us!

Here's what it looked like out on the trails today:

Tubing hill is also open. See you soon.

Let's Call It 6.

6" of new snow. Hey, it's winter again!
We'll be back to skiing again tomorrow.

Here's Susan heading out to check things out:

Snow!

It's snowing! Actual, real, honest to goodness snow. Woohoo! At least 4" right now.

Forecast is calling for snow on Friday and then more on Sunday. I will never complain about the weather again. (Fingers crossed.)

We've Moved

We have a new neighborhood. Howdy, neighbors!

Well, Great Glen Trails is still in the same place—beautiful Pinkham Notch, but welcome to the new blog. It's exactly the same as the old blog, but now we're on blogger. I guess if you're reading this, you knew that already. So, follow along as we blog about outdoor fun at the base of Mt. Washington.

Speaking of outdoor fun, we're starting off another interesting New England winter. Mother Nature has a really good curve ball, and she's dealing right now. We're grooming this morning and going to get more and more terrain open throughout the day. The good news is that we did get about 5 inches of new snow, which has kept our base solid. It was the rain and freezing rain that fell on top that wasn't so great. That's her curve ball. Be sure to stay tuned to our conditions page for all the updates.

See you on the snow.
